Who We Really Are

Back in early 2019, a couple of tech instructors were sitting around wondering why practical IT education felt so disconnected from what businesses actually needed. That conversation turned into CognitSynex.

We're not claiming to revolutionize anything. But we do think there's a better way to teach technology skills. One that respects your time and focuses on what you'll actually use in a real work environment.

Our space in Fyshwick became home to hands-on workshops where people could learn cloud architecture, automation scripting, and infrastructure management without the fluff. And yeah, we made mistakes along the way. Lots of them. But that's how we figured out what works.

What Drives Our Approach

Look, we could tell you we're passionate about education. And we are. But more than that, we're practical people who believe your learning experience should prepare you for actual challenges, not just certification exams.

Every course we design starts with conversations. We talk to people working in systems administration, DevOps teams, and infrastructure roles. Then we build curriculum around the gaps they see.

Our instructors? They're still working in the field. Tamsin leads our cloud infrastructure program while consulting on AWS deployments. Rhett teaches automation because he spends his weeks writing Python scripts for production environments. That current experience matters.

  • Small group sessions where you can actually ask questions without getting lost in a crowd of fifty people
  • Lab environments that mirror what you'll encounter at work, not simplified toy examples
  • Project work based on scenarios we've seen in real client engagements
  • Honest feedback about where you're progressing and where you need more practice
  • Follow-up support after courses end because learning doesn't stop at graduation

Principles That Guide Us

We're not perfect. But we try to stay true to these ideas when making decisions about how we run programs and work with students.

Practical Before Theoretical

Theory has its place. But we start with the practical stuff you'll need tomorrow and build context around it. Because understanding why matters more when you've already seen how.

Honest About Limitations

A twelve-week program won't make you a senior engineer. We're clear about what our courses can and can't do. Your success depends on practice, continued learning, and real-world experience after training ends.

Accessible Without Dumbing Down

Complex topics need clear explanation, not oversimplification. We break down difficult concepts but never pretend they're easier than they are. You deserve to understand the actual complexity.

Community Over Competition

Students help each other in our programs. We encourage collaboration because that's how most tech work actually happens. The person next to you isn't competition, they're a future colleague.

Want to See How We Work?

Our next program intake begins in July 2026. Or if you'd like to understand more about our teaching methods and course structure, we're happy to chat.
